News!

The Pretty Kitty Contest that began on June 15th is closed to new entries. The photos are up. I want to extend a very special thank you to my friend Liza, for helping to reduce the size of 7 of the photos to get them uploaded. Our internet hosting company has a limit of 100meg per photo, and she brought them in with clarity and on time! Thanks, Liza!

There is a voting form on the page, and each photo can be seen larger by clicking on the photo. Please vote!

Results will be announced on July 15th. BIG OOPS! I didn't keep the entries except the photos & who sent them. So, when the winner is announced, please contact me the same way you entered and we will get your prize to you.

There is a "Summer Sandals Special" running until July 5th, the SBI "Independance Day." This is from my hosting company. If you or your children might like to make their own internet site to share knowledge - or even put themselves through college - now is the time to get started. Read all about it here:

New Pages

If you Declaw your cat, these are some of the problems you might find and how to deal with them.

This is a story from Melinda Y. in Ohio about Cody. A reader-submitted story for you.

I've got a portion of a new story below, and the "rest of the story" is on the website. I had to use my sister's cat for the picture, but when I get my new Photoshop program, I'll upload the correct photo of Cruiser. He's a black and white cat, and the story is a little long, but Rusty, his person, is a great writer! I hope you like it!

the BLOG

I also have a blog on the website, which I'd been trying to get going for a while. If you are already subscribed to the RSS feed, you can get updated real quick that way. The content does NOT duplicate, so you might want both.

July and Summer

July brings fireworks in the US and France, picnics, watermelon (in some areas) and hot weather. Your cat will be most comfortable away from the fireworks. Please report any abuse to authorities, as some sick individuals will tie a firecracker to a cat's tail and light it. This is downright cruel, and those people are well on their way to deviant and cruel behavior to people if they will do such a thing to a cat.

Also, because the temperature is climbing in the Northern Hemisphere and dropping in the Southern Hemisphere, please take appropriate action to protect your cat. Keep water available at all times.

Here are some specific pointers:
In climbing heat: Pop an ice cube in the water bowl once a day. Provide shade.

In chilling areas: Provide shelter from wind and rain. Provide some way for your outdoor cats to dry off, either scraps of carpet or old blankets.

Keep childrens electrolye solution handy. It will prevent and treat dehydration.

Aftermath of Pet Food Recalls

Many folks are dealing with the after-effects of the pet food recall from the melamine put in wheat and other fillers in pet foods. This results in lingering kidney problems. Watch your cat to be sure that urination is not painful. Watch for signs of dehydration and discomfort. Keep the litter box clean and pay attention to what you remove. This is your best defense against your cat's lingering problems.

Many vets are sympathetic and can help with medications to reduce discomfort. They are also on the front-line in treatment options. Ask about these options if you have any concerns.

There are also many supplements and preparations on the market to support healthy function of the renal system(kidney and bladder). I've picked one of the best for you this month as your July Featured Product since this will be an ongoing issue for several months at least.

Cruiser the Cat

From Rusty P. in Florida, USA

It was inevitable that after two and a half years together that Sue would become expectant. Yes, Sue expected to get another cat to replace the petite Miss Priss that she had loved for years. A slight, shy, gray striped female cat, Miss Priss was still a warm and fond memory to Sue.

It would take an extraordinary cat to replace Miss Priss, so Sue thought about it for a long time before deciding to get another. This one, however, would be a little different. Male, declawed, neutered, larger, but just as friendly and playful. So one day Sue made a decision and said to me, “We’re going to have a little one.”

And I was thrilled to think that soon we would hear the pitter patter of little feet. The search began almost immediately as Sue went to her computer and began to ask Google for sites on the web that advertised cats for adoption, such as the Humane Society and the local SPCA. In no time she found a gray cat at the Humane Society that seemed to match her desires. It was named simply “Kit”. That would have to change to something more in line with our interests and lifestyle.
