Hi there, ,What's in This Issue:We have issues with kitty when he or she falls in love, and "deep summer" is here, as is the warmest (or coldest) part of the year. This means fleas and other pests or odor control issues. What to keep in mind....News and updates are first, telling you what's new on the site. Come visit! News and UpdatesThere are a couple of new pages this month:
Deep SummerWhat's so important about "deep summer?" The heat is at it's worst in the northern hemisphere and it's coldest in the southern hemisphere. Where do you live?Northern Hemisphere Hot! Hot!! HOT!!! Seasonal Hazards So, add ice to the water bowl, keep the air moving. Protect your pets from severe weather - keep them indoors and when thunderstorms happen, try to comfort them. Check for fleas and ticks. This is the time of year when they get a free ride indoors and onto people. Fleas can just be nasty, biting us. However, those ticks carry disease, so check carefully! Southern Hemisphere Getting pretty cold out! Cats and Cold Weather Page Provide shelter from the weather. Keep fresh water in the water bowl, A hint: Hot Water Freezes Faster Than Cold Water. It's a physics experiment you can do at home! Put cold water in an ice cube tray and hot water in an ice cube tray. Put both in a freezer with nothing else, and not on top of each other. The one with the hot water will freeze first. I could explain it, but that won't help your pet get water. Just be sure you use cold water in the bowls. Spay and Neuter ClinicsOK, so your kitty is exhibiting some of the same behaviors that my Beasley and Queenie are - what to do?First of all, be sure your female is spayed! Otherwise, there will be kittens and unless you want to be finding homes for those babies or plan on keeping them yourself; you want to avoid kittens. Of course, if you are a professional breeder and run a cattery, then you might want a couple of kittens running around. However, most of us don't want or need that. Sign up for online notices from your local animal control office or humane society that run spay and neuter clinics. It might cost you a small donation, but that's something they could use to help folks get their animals spayed and neutered at low cost. Anyway, get signed up whatever it takes. They will let you know when the clinics will happen. As a bonus, they often have "clip & chip" clinics, too. These are times to bring the babies in for claw clipping, micro-chipping and vaccinations. All for reduced cost! So, get your cats spayed or neutered and support your local humane society clinic at the same time. OK, so you have a male cat - why neuter him? Well, he's probably getting into fights with other males. He might be spraying your walls and doors, too. Fighting with other cats opens him up to disease like FeLV and FIV. Do you want to lose him???? If you love him, you'll get him neutered. The spraying will reduce or stop completely, as a bonus. That's my issue for the month - spay and neuter clinics. Get them done. If your babies are spayed and neutered, and they still exhibit lovey-dovey behavior, you can be sure they love each other. Many cats just "co-exist" so I hope you are grateful!
Summer Specials:This month's specials include: flea and tick treatments for our cats; yard fogger for those who are completely over-run with fleas and can't wait for the more natural diatomaceous earth to work, and some fabulous catnip I found recently. There is no special on odor control stuff, but I've included it in the month's lineup because odors can be much worse in the summer.
This newsletter is produced for YOU, the reader. Please let me know if you want to see anything in here that hasn't been covered for a while. You can view all the past issues and look deeper into the new information I've found.
