Updates to the site

News and updates:

I want to thank everyone for your kind wishes and your patience while I've been with my family. My mother passed quietly on May 2, 2008. She is no longer in pain and her kind heart is looking down on my sister and myself, healing the wounds and sore places in our souls.

I've been more working on my other site, so not a lot of updates. Although I just discovered some products had been pulled by Drs. Foster and Smith. That is a true shame. They seemed to be good guys, but if the supplier does that, I stop trusting them.

I'm still counseling, and although there were delays in my responses, I *did* respond to everyone. I'm getting back to normal, finally.

Lonely Kitties -

My cats got really lonely while I was out of town. I had an emergency trip to be with my mom while she passed to the next world, and I was gone 18 days. I'd never been gone that long before.

The cats didn't fare very well while I was gone. I was going to board them at the kennel, but their shots aren't up to date, and I didn't have time to get that done - I barely made the flight as it was!

So, a substitute cat sitter because I couldn't get hold of their regular sitter, instructions on phones and passing of keys at the last minute - and Poof! I'm across the country.

I was immediately wrapped up in all the family drama, so I didn't think about the kitties till late at night, and by then, it was too late to call anyone.

I finally called about 4 days later and got hold of someone. She finally went to see the kitties at a week, and they were very scared, hissing and hiding. The litter boxes needed to be attended to, and so on. She got all of them to come out for special food treats (she knows them well!) and checked them all out. She cleaned the litter boxes and got more litter.

She continued to look after them while the substitute was gone for Mother's Day. Yep - that was part of the mix.

Anyway, I got home safe and sound and it took the cats about 12 hours to come out and talk to me. Then, it was like the floodgates broke, and I was under a kitty pile anytime I stopped moving long enough! What a feeling! I loved it!

And the affection given and received! Ah! What bliss.....

They got much more comfortable in the past few weeks, of course. They are turning their noses up at offers of snuggles, being particular about food again, and generally being the wonderful, individual fur-people I've come to know and love.

A New Brush

I got a new brush to work through their fur that is more traditional in appearance and function. They are still getting used to it. The brush looks like a dog brush with no protective tips on the bent metal bristles.

Here is a run-down of the kids and their attitudes, and their acceptance of the new brush.

Fluffy lost the extra weight while I was gone. She is now a nicely-sized kitty girl. She's very affectionate and allowing some brushing. She actually seemed to like the new brush. Then, I cut a nasty mat off her neck, and that was it. I have to pin her down to brush her and she complains. However, when I stop stroking with the brush, pick up her head and give her a nuzzle, she doesn't run.

Beasley is very affectionate, giving lots of head bonks and kisses. He is still very resistant to brushing, but he doesn't get much choice. He gets hairballs all the time and has some mats on his back, so I'm working on them. He's finally realized that I mean business and he's picking on them when I'm not. I continue to give him PetroMalt (Hartz) and got another mat started on his neck because he pulled away and got it on the side instead of on his chest. Oh well....

Bugs is chasing me down a lot, sticking really close. She is very loving and insecure. She's never been very patient with the brush or even with snuggles. She can take a little active cuddles and then she has to run off. She has some mats across her saddle, and I'm trying to get to them. I'm going to have to get help with her, I'm afraid. She is very playful, and if I can train her to allow some brushing in exchange for some extra play, that may work well.

Queenie is even more like velcro on my hip. She took a few minutes to get used the the new brush and she loves it. I've removed so much more hair from her and the remaining fur is very shiny. However, the little flakes of skin are also showing up. I think some salmon oil will be helpful for her.

And my Princess, well, she is very vocal and demanding. She doesn't wait till bedtime anymore - she walks right up to me and asks for cuddles. Oh, and forget brushing her. She won't even let anyone get that close to her. Good thing her fur has no mats and is thick and lush. She loves snuggles, but not grooming. She's been getting some hairballs lately, too. She also got picked up recently and hid for 3 whole days. She really does not like being confined in any way.

I hope they grow even more loving, shiny and snuggly.
