Hi there, ,

What's in This Issue:

Updates to the site

We've had some folks submit pages on the "Bad Cat Behaviors" pages.

Foster and Smith stopped selling their products via affiliate sales (independent sales agents) due to some pending sales tax legislation that is set to tax all internet sales. Many suppliers may potentially pull back, which can wreak havoc on internet sites like mine.

It will take me at least another month to replace the items on the site that I can no longer carry. Write to your legislators if you want to stop this kind of government encroachment on your internet shopping.

I've been dealing with S.A.D., and a couple of life changes. I'm still here, still counseling, and working on converting the site to full-screen HTML. I'm also learning some new techniques to add more interactivity to the site - like a product or solution search feature.

I apologize for not being more proactive, but life sometimes kicks my butt... Like this weather, for instance!!! Snow again today, in the southeast of the US. I'm over the weather, and now they tell me that the Chilean earthquake may have shifted the earth's axis and shortened our days even more.

Maybe the hype about Dec 21 2012 isn't all that full of conjecture and speculation...

Oh, well. Meanwhile, Mr. Beasley continues as a snuggle-beast, and the ladies are having a ball trying to get to the birds at the feeder outside the window. Our cats give us comfort and joy - sometimes heartache and trouble. But I still love living with them. How about you?

If you are having trouble with your cat always eating your plants or digging in the soil there are several easy solutions to this problem. Cats naturally like to explore their territory, and your plants are included in that territory. So if you are tired of cleaning up topsoil off the ground here are some ways to save your plants.

If your cat is always playing with plant soil you could try putting some large pebbles or rocks on top of the soil. These will be too heavy for your cat to move, but at the same time allow water to pass through them so you can continue to water them.

Another solution is putting some pinecones on top of the soil. Cats do not like to touch them or step on these. As a last resort you could try putting aluminum foil on the top of the soil as well. Cats do not like the feel of aluminum foil and you can poke holes through the foil so you can continue to water the plant as well.

If your cats are chewing on the leaves you can spray a product called Bitter Apple on them as well. If your cat really likes chewing on plant you could invest in buying some cat grass which is sold at most pet stores or online.

This allows cats to chew on plant material, and will hopefully divert their attention away from your plants towards her own cat grass.

As a last resort if none of these steps seem to work for you can always elevate your plants higher or put them on a pedestal so they're not reachable.

Whatever the cause of your cat's bad behavior, the important thing is to correct it quickly. To learn how to do this correctly, visit: Solutions To Cat Behavior Problems!

Though they can make wonderful pets, they can also make wonderful pests. Cats are remarkable breeders, and stray cats on your property seem to do nothing but multiply. Sometimes, it becomes necessary to get rid of cats hanging around your yard. But how is it done?

All members of the feline family, including even domestic cats, are natural hunters. The lion is considered the king of the jungle, after all, and so cats can become kings of your property. Besides hunting rodents and birds, cats will attack your trash cans and perhaps your house pets. But because cats are such excellent and prolific hunters, they can live very independently. You will not be able to take away their food source, so this is not a viable way to get rid of cats. Without any aid from you, and in fact in spite of you, cats will find water to drink and prey to eat.

There are at least two viable ways to get rid of cats without harming them, however. It is best if you can make the cats want to leave your property of their own accord. There are electronic devices you can purchase and place in your garden or other areas of feline activity that will release a high-pitched noise when cats near the area. Cats will be frightened away by that noise and leave the area, so you can get rid of cats with very little effort on your part.

Another very easy way to get rid of cats is to use a powder that contains a scent (usually that of a predator's urine) and spread it around the area where you're having cat problems. This powder is safe for your plants and grass, and will not harm the cats or other animals in any way - only repel them from the area. If you want to get rid of cats, using a natural method that will not harm them is the best.

If these methods do not succeed the way you want them to, there are still other ways (though not as cheap or easy) to get rid of cats. While many animal control services do not take care of cats, there are some agencies who will professionally trap and removes cats for you. However, it may be difficult for some to find these agencies close to home. You can also try to trap cats yourself, but this is inadvisable as wild cats will fight against humans without compunction, and are capable of inflicting some nasty wounds with dirty claws.
