Hi there, ,What's in This Issue:A quick list of what's in this issue:
Updates to the siteNews and updates:
Burt Elias has gone missing, so I found a great new source of some interesting cat furniture. It's on the same page, so you should find it without too much difficulty. I'm on a family trip. My contact info has not changed, but it is more difficult for me to get to the computer. If you write to me, please be tolerant of delays.
What about TV?Yes, cats like to watch TV. Some like it more than others. The cats that watch TV will have preferences as to the show they like to watch.I had a cat named Squeaky who liked line drawings. Cartoons. There was an adult festival on the local public TV station some years ago. The preferred cartoon was a black screen with stick-figures ironing and going to school. He would watch the cartoon every time it came on. It was amazing! He'd be sitting around the house, doing his kitty best to ignore the entire world. That cartoon would come on, and he sat mesmermized by the screen. He'd get right next to the TV - about a foot away - and watch it every time. At another time, we tried watching "The Simpsons" which I decided was too sitcom like so I stopped watching it. He never even noticed it was on. There was recently a special "Alley Cat" type show - again animated - but that wasn't what drew my crew! The meows and screeches were just like the stray cats in the park behind my house. Everybody came running when the commercial ran. The actual show was a bit vulgar, so I turned it off after about 5 minutes. And the cats didn't even notice. Mostly, I watch certain shows that have weekly schedules. I enjoy them. Sometimes, the cats will join me. Queenie, for instance, likes to watch "Designed to Sell" with me. She likes the changes in the screen. I also watch a lot of old black & white movies. I like them, they tend to be "G" rated or at least inoffensive, and very entertaining. Princess likes the musicals, Beasley likes the Star Wars saga, and so on. Watch your cat the next time you have an evening of TV watching. See what draws her attention. It might be a commercial, the voice of one of the actors or even the movement. You will be amazed what they like.
Estate PlanningThis is not something we want to think about. What happens to our cats if something happens to us????We never know what is going to happen in life. I had some surgery back in 1999, and I was in the hospital for ten days. It was scary, exhausting and confusing. I had only 3 pets at the time, but I had to face what would happen to them if something happened to me. This was brought home last week when my mom landed in the hospital. As I write this, she is still there, and the doctors don't know if she will come home or not. She was completely unprepared. No living will, no advance directive, and no power of attorney to handle her life while she is incapacitated. All this was prepared in a hurry, of course, when she was admitted. But isn't it easier to deal with this stuff when we aren't rushed? Maybe we want someone to know something that we can't articulate when our jaw is broken or we are medicated to a near catatonic state. And what about the cats? If you don't make arrangements ahead of time, your beloved feline will end up in the pound, likely a kill shelter, and be euthanized. Would you want to reward the love and affection your cat has given you with such a fate? Even if you don't have a special person to take the cat, if you at least say which shelter the cat should be handed to may help. A no-kill shelter or a rescue organization can be named. If you can donate some money for the cat's care in your will, that ensures that the cat will be taken care of. And it need not be a large amount of money. One to Three Hundred dollars can make all the difference! Think about that and please, don't fret. Just love your kitty. May SpecialsI have several items this month.![]()
