The Feral Cat Care Coalition - "FCCC" have a real community going to protect, nurture and heal the feral cat population in the greater Los Angeles area. We may not live where they do, and our dollars may need to go someplace closer to home, but the model they provide is really good: Feral Cat Caretakers Coalition

A Knoxville link you may want to contact is the Knoxville Area Rescue group, Knoxville Feral Cat Friends. They are trying to help the strays and feral cats in the Knoxville urban areas. They could always use your help or donations.

In South Carolina, contact Judith: 4 Luv Cats, on Petfinder. Judith's For the Love of Cats, Inc, is very close in name to For the Love of Cats dot com, but we are not related. Judith is in South Carolina and concentrates on rescue.

For the Love of Cats dot com is based in Tennessee, and hopes to be THE place on the internet to come for any cat related needs you may have. Specializing in Cat Whispering, For the Love of Cats dot com is an informative website for cat owners and cat lovers with questions or concerns.

Flock Cat Rescue in Las Vegas, NV is a place for rescued cats in greater Nevada and the Southwest.

There are organizations all over the world protecting and caring for feral cats. Europe, Great Britain, China, India and South America, all have feral cat programs. Most of these are privately funded, and are harder to find online. You can always contact the Humane Society in your area for information on the local feral cat rescue organization and for help with low-cost spay and neuter services.

Petfinder is a great resource for someone wanting to rescue a cat. Sometimes, you can find a retired show cat who just wants a home full of love. This is an economical way to have a beautiful, pedigreed cat. Another way to find a pedigreed cat is to volunteer to do some legs of transports for the rescue organization for the breed of your choice. However, most cats are the "heinz 57" type. Just mixed breeds who have personalities, loves, and preferences in toys, who need a loving home more than anything else.

Your local pound or shelter is another resource to use to obtain a cat for your home. Often, the older cats never make it out of the shelter alive. Please consider this option and save a beautiful animal from certain death.

Dog trainers will tell you that the mixed breeds are the easiest to train and handle. The same is true for the mixed breed cats. While the pedigreed cat may be the envy of your friends, they come with documented health proclivities and behaviors. Siamese like to talk, Persians need careful grooming on a regular basis, and Maine Coons have immune disorders. So, no matter how you choose your cat, please keep in mind that each has their own needs.

If you have never had one of these amazing animals before, start with a mixed breed pound cat. They are usually trained to the litter box, know how to give good cuddles, and just want out from behind bars. They are grateful to you and will give you lots of love and enjoyment for many years.
