Hav-a-Heart Wild Animal Trap

The Hav-a-heart trap is the most humane way to catch feral cats and other critters. Simply bait, set and cover or disguise. The animal will enter and trip the trap. The animal gets a meal, the person gets the animal. Neat, simple.

Setting The Trap

  1. Place the trap on a level surface in the area the animal has been observed.
  2. Set the trap door by pressing on peg latch. Press the latch down and pull up on the door.
  3. Open the door to the "up" position.
  4. Reach inside the trap, pull trip lever toward front of trap so rod hooks under the door frame.
  5. Place the cover over the trap, making sure not to obstruct the moving parts of the trap.
  6. Bait with cat food, tuna fish, etc. Place bait under the rear trip plate.

After Trapping

  1. After trapping cat, keep cover over the trap to help calm the animal.
  2. Wear heavy leather gloves when moving or transporting the cage with the animal inside of it.

Caution: Do NOT attempt to pet, feed, or handle a captured animal. Do NOT leave captured animals or trap where children can reach them. Contact your local Humane Society or Animal Control Officer to learn of the regulations in your community regarding the disposition of trapped animals.

Medium size is the most comfortable for a trapped cat if it is left in the trap overnight.

To use the trap, follow the directions for setting the trap, and bait it using fresh meat, seafood or a nice fish head. What to do when you catch the cat is discussed on the Taming a Feral Cat page.
