Abandoned persian taken in...hell on wheels

I have taken in a abandoned, male neutered, 5 yr old, red flamed, himalayan, malnutritioned, ears infected, very aggressive, biting, hissing growling, to screaching upon holding with treatments, and any attempt of affection unless musseled, or eyes covered.
Now he sits, comes out, meows for someone but when you try to pet him or just sit close will again go for me like a wild animal and same reaction.
His history of course is unknown. His outcome is unknown to me or if he will ever allow anyone to touch him without drawing blood. To get him to move when he is blocking a door and to prevent a jump attack, I use a small white plastic pole to push him gently. He violently attacks and bites it, not backing down until he sees he is not scaring it away.
He has recently allowed me to pick him up with growling at first then okay with it all for about a minute. Made eye contact with me and then out of nowhere became hysterical and attack my arms, biting me deeply several times before I could get him away from me while trying to jump me as well.
Could he have been very abused or mentally ill or because I am the primary treatment giver he hates me? I have had many abused rescued cats and this one I can't seem to reach or he doesn't want me to.
He doesn't mind the dog and my other cat just avoids him, but stands her ground when he approaches her territory and he just sits and doesn't attack her.
Any suggestions? I have tried pheonomes(sp), treats to lure him, nothing. I am at a loss for reasons or solutions. Is there hope for this kitty to learn to love?
Morgen here... Yes, he can be helped. He needs patient handling, and some communication efforts without handling. Contain him and use a tickler wand or other toy to draw his interest. It sounds like you have worked to restore his health. Continue in this way, and protect yourself. Once health is restored, move slowly. I suggest a lion-cut to reduce handling during grooming. Speak softly to him and address him by whatever name you have given him. Further information can be had by e-mail.
