Excessive Meowing

hes the one on the right, His name is Mister (grey and white) and the other one is our female Tinkerbelle. She aggravated him & they started wrestling and playing.
We got a male cat from another family. When he moved in immediately he started meowing like crazy in the wee hours of the morning (like 12am to 5am) and sometimes just late evening as well 9pm to 5am. He meows as if hes a non-spayed female cat in heat! I often catch him in the hall just walking & meowing or looking around at the ceiling as if he see stuff.
Hes about 2-3 years old, purrrrr-fectly healthy, neutered, de-clawed (not our choice he came that way) and total indoor cat. He's a little on the pudgey side but has been put on indoor formula(dry only). He HATES new cats, we got a female, and it took him 2 weeks to stop hissing at her! Then they became best friends (mates) and now we brought in another female kitten and it took about a week to become friends with her.
I've tried everything from locking him in the laundry room at night, to getting a spray water bottle (when he meows we'd spray him) hes gotten to the point all you have to do is make a hiss sound with your mouth, or see the bottle & he runs. But he won't shut up! I've tried more exercise & play time with him, new cat toys, cat treats, cat nip, we even take him on walks outside because he seems very interested in the out doors, (leashed of course) which he loves. We also got him a playmate (2 now) to see if he was lonely and that didn't work. We even tried wet food to see if he was just hungry and that didn't help!
Were at our wits end and I don't want to get rid of him. He's a great, loving cat but weird. He doesn't like to be held or sitting on your lap. He's a loner, I guess. But he'll let you pet him & pick him up sometimes but he meows! Anyone know why hes doing this? And please don't tell me my house is haunted! I've had several people say that but he did it at the old peoples house to and the people before that. (He's been tossed out a lot)
I think he's looking for something in the middle of the night - perhaps a sound??? Try a ticking clock or a grandfather-type clock. That may help. ~Morgen
