FANTASTICALLY lovable cat wakes me up every morning at 6am

by Amanda
(Indiana )

I have 2 cats, Grob and Snicklefritz. They get along well and seem pretty happy.

Grob is younger, less than a year old, and has a lot of energy. I try hard to keep him entertained with lots of toys and play time. He is very demanding when he wants food, wants to go outside, or is just bored. He meows at me when he wants things, and I have gotten him to meow a lot less by ignoring him and not giving him what he wants.

However, in the last couple of months he has developed a very annoying, new habit. He has woken me up for attention sometimes at night by gently pawing my face. Lately this has stopped, as he has figured out scratching the glass door of my bedroom tv stand is very effective at waking me up. It is extremely loud and impossible for anyone to sleep through. I always feed them in the morning before I leave for the day, and I think some of this behavior is a demand for food.

He does this every day now, and I have been putting him outside lately when he starts doing it. This is the only solution I have found so far to getting some rest, and it is by far not a permanent solution.

PLEASE HELP I AM DESPERATELY TIRED

Grob is a great companion, and I would like both of us to be happy.

Try putting out a little bit of his crunchies at night. You don't say how much they are being fed, so add 1/2 cup of crunchies at night for both of them. This should stave of the hungries enough, until you get up at a reasonable hour. Also, keep tossable toys at the head of your bed, so you can toss a toy when they want attention in the middle of the night. ~ Morgen
