Jumping On Us At Night In Bed and Knocking Stuff Off Headboard

by GayleMyrna
(California)

"Sunshine"

Sunshine is an adorable cat around one to three years old I adopted from a shelter in January this year. She is very sweet and docile, loves being petted and attention. She is also always ready and eager to play. Meanwhile, I already have chronic insommnia and sleep apnea. I use a C-PAP at night. At some point in the night, she will start walking back across the pillows or our bodies. She then starts trying to wack stuff off the headboard shelf, such as the alarm clock. This wakes me or my partner up...and for me it is extraordinarily difficult to return to sleep. She has also pawed my C-PAP mask. I have already moved all small objects into a larger sealed plastic box and have put the clock on the floor at night. She still tries to explore the headboard shelf area. She also jumps from our bed to my dresser and wacks stuff off of that. We have tried locking her out of the bedroom, but then she meows, bangs against the door, and shreds the carpet by the door (we are in a rental and want to minimize the damage). I have tried putting carpet remnants by the door, but she paws around them to the real carpet. We have tried spraying water on her when she jumps on our pillows, but she eventually comes back. I also tried locking her out of the bedroom and spraying a water/vinegar mix on the door and carpet there to keep her away from the door, but it was to no avail.
I don't mind her in bedroom at night, or sleeping on the bed. Just not jumping around and disturbing us.
Any ideas???
Thanks!
