My cat can suddenly without warning attack me.

the cat that has bitten me-Priny for short

She is 2 1/2 years old. I have had her since she was just 2 months old. She was part of a litter of all grey barn cats born to two cats of the same coloring. She is a gorgeous domestic long hair. She can be so so sweet, though skiddish.

There were no episodes for her first 2 years of life. Then, without warning, as I was cleaning her litter box, and moved it to another room and was just putting it back with smile on face telling her it "was all clean now for her etc." She jumps on me and bit right into my hand with both eye teeth drawing a lot of blood.

This astounded me.

I went through every step over and over I had done; had I stepped into her at some point and not realized it? Was she upset because she saw me move the box to clean it in another room and it was invading her space? I had another cat here much older and taught her to get along (best I could) with her. She adores the other cat and wishes she liked her more, but truly she is somewhat jealous, but slowly responding, very slowly.

These episodes increased with little notice. Once I was cleaing the floor with a wisk broom and she was alongside me. The broom accidently slid on top of her paws, and I just said, "oops owie," sorry if that hurt. Well she just looked straight at me and I knew what was coming. She took my hand between her paws and chomped down on it. Blood all over again.

There was a time I was carrying the litter box from outside after emptying it and she jumped high and bit me on the arm and scratched me best she could.. Biting is deep. Lucky she is fully vaccinated.

I adore this kitty. She is the most beautiful cat and I watched her grow up from a baby and was so good to her. She comes to me and will lay on top of me at times. She will pump my chest and purr and purr. She opens the bathroom door in the mornings or if I get up in the middle of the night to the bathroom she follows me in and will rub herself against me purring and then jumping to stand on her hind legs to rub against me when I am trying to go to the bathroom unless I lock the door. She is all over me then.

She is two cats. It has been months since her last episode where she bit until tonight, when she hissed and hissed. She had been hiding in the bathroom and when I saw her I had another cat (stray) I had been caring for and slowly shoved him out of the entrance to the room for privacy. I noticed Princess [my young female was in lying over the room vent and thought things would be fine as she liked to be with me, I thought.

Until tonight! She suddenly, when I stood up
came up to me and jumped as high as she could and got a hold of the skin on my torso and bit hard to draw some blood -it would have been worse but I had a warm top on.

She also scratched my arms as well. It was awful and she was just ferocious. I have an 11 year old female that has never bit me, is full of love and is jealous but would never ever bite.

I actually have never seen this before in a cat??? Even the stray I am helping to rescue is hard to handle, but I have taken him to the vet and one thing is he would never bite me period. And we have struggled as he will not go in the carrier, but I do not use gloves and know this guy will not bite. In fact he is on my bed right now, and I scolded Princess and she is still hanging out in another room.

My older 11 year old cat is now up also on my bed not far from the stray and they are sleeping!?

I do not understand what causes this? Can cats develop neurological conditions or tumors that cause these sudden dramatic personality changes?

Have her checked by the vet. Increase the Taurine in her diet. Check her hearing. If you don't find anything, it's likely she has a sensitivity to something in her environment. ~Morgen
