Painful Scratching

by David
(MA, USA)

Sharp claws

Sharp claws

When I visit my girlfriend, her usually sweet, friendly, and dynamic older cat turns vicious in the middle of the night, clawing first at her and then at me. It really hurts because we haven't found a way to clip his claws without hurting him (the motorized grinder advertised on TV doesn't work, and we don't think the Emory Cat advertised on TV would work either). Is he annoyed with me being a new male in his territory, or can this be solved by some method of clipping his claws?

There sounds like something else going on - not just jealousy. It might be the sounds or smells of coitus, or it might be that he is "playing" with your feet and hands. It would be best to contact the Cat Whisperer for a more in-depth analysis and positive resolution. ~Morgen
