Patches my Caramel spotted Calico

by Andrea
(Mackianw, IL. )

She was discovered near a garbage can as a kitten, by my 4 year old son, Ben. She was covered in food and dirty but she cleaned up beautifully. We gave her a healthy meal and she kept coming back for more. I am severely allergic to cats and become asthmatic and itchy so she was an outdoor cat her entire life.

Her cousin Tootsie and her were inseparable. She entertained us with her comedic feat of climbing the screen and dropping, over and over to get our attention. She would hang there for 40 seconds and stare at us while we sat at the dinner table until someone had compassion and gave her a treat. She was a beautiful cat.

Then she gave birth to her own litter and I helped her whelp a small grey calico named possum because she resembled one so much. The other kittens did not make it, even though she was an excellent mother. She, Tootsie, and Possum were my version of the three little kittens.

Always standing together in the mornings at the patio door crying for breakfast at 7:00 a.m.. I took care of them for the last 14 or 15 years. We hired pet sitters when we traveled. My Tootsie girl did not come home this spring. I think Patch missed her even though she had Possum, and today Possum is pacing in search of her Momma, who we buried this morning.

God has brought another animal I loved into heaven where I hope and pray she is being licked by Tootsie, and is rubbing sideways against Sugar Boy, our miniature Sheltie who passed last winter.

Till we meet again Patch... I love you dearly. I will miss you now.

Rest in Peace.
