Shredding the furniture

by Carole
(Portland, Oregon)

My cat Lucy is very devious and smart. I had had her for about 2 years when I bought a new couch. Not wanting her to ruin it by shredding it, I tried all the various methods, tape, spray, water bottle, but nothing worked. I finally resorted to covering my new couch with towels pinned all over it. It is now 2 years later and I thought she had finally gotten over needing to claw the couch. She has numerous scratching posts. So I removed the last towel and could actually see all of my still beautiful couch. While watching a movie one night and apparently not paying much attention to her, Lucy walked right up to the couch to the area I had just uncovered and began to claw her way to my attention. Needless to say, the towel is back on. It is like trying to fight the tide. I guess my beautiful forest green couch with the cream colored towel on one end will remain that way until Lucy is not with me.

What a great idea! - Morgen
