Sweetness with a price.

by Shelly
(Denton,TX)

We have a male 11 month old cat. He is the sunshine in our lives but sometimes he can be so mean. He loves my husband and bites him once in a while, but with me he loves to bite. In fact, sometimes I think he goes out of his way to do that. He always gives me the look. Ears back, swishy tail, tilting his head back and forth. So I stay clear or try to distract him with toys or laser light. That works for a bit and then wham-o he attacks. If I move out of his way he will meow and look at me like "come on it will only hurt for a little bit." I've tried the spray bottle, time-outs, or toys but he still wants to get me. He will even try to block my walkway, I know he is trying to dominate me so how do I show him I am the boss? At other times I'm the one he will come to for cuddles, he sleeps at my feet at nite. We are thinking of adding another cat to the household and are worried that he might not like that. We sure love him though, out little sunshine named Q.

Push in when he bites. Play using toys at the end of a string, like the Da Bird toy. Never play using your hands as the "prey" because it teaches the cat to bite and attack. Put some pepper sauce on your fingers or legs if he tries to bite them. Be consistent! ~Morgen
